 Choo
Shin-soo is definitely Korea’s leading baseball player.
He is now enhancing our national prestige as a member of Cincinnati
Red in the United States. But, we should not forget that there was
a great teacher who created today’s Choo. It was his father.
Choo’s father trained Choo since he was little. Choo had to walk with
sand bags attached to his
legs, do chin-ups, and stand still
while he lifted heavy objects. It was truly hard training for a little
one.
“It must be too hard for you now, but I guarantee you that this will
be a great help later when you grow up,” his father said.
One night, Choo’s father awoke him. It was drizzling outside. “Wake
up, son! You should go somewhere with me,” the father rushed Choo.
His father took him to a cemetery. “Go around this
cemetery ten times,” his father ordered.
Because of the rain, the cemetery looked very spooky. Choo was so scared
that he hesitated to go into the
cemetery. Then, his father firmly said, “If you are afraid of only
this little thing, how can you be a great future baseball player?”
 Choo was
encouraged by what his father
said. When Choo stepped into the cemetery, he was very frightened. But, as he ran,
the fear just went away. When Choo came back to his father after running,
his father gave him a big hug.
“When you face difficulties in your life later, just think about what
you experienced today. Then, you will find out the way to deal with hardship.” Choo engraved what his father
said in his mind.
Thanks to his father’s love and support, Choo became recognized as
one of the world’s greatest baseball players. |
