How Was the Band-Aid Created?    [30-08-2013]

What do we need when we cut our skin? Yes, we need Band-Aids! An American man named Earl Dickson (1892-1961) invented this useful device. He created it thanks to his love for his wife.

¡°Ouch! Earl, I cut my finger!¡±

Dickson¡¯s wife got hurt very often because of her careless personality. Every time she hurt herself, Dickson aided her with medical tapes and gauze. However, Dickson was worried that her wife would get hurt when he was not with her.

¡°I should make something my wife can easily use, just in case I was not with her,¡± he thought. Then, Dickson stuck gauze on to the medical tape.

¡°Oh, wait. These tapes are not sticky anymore,¡± he found out that the tapes couldn¡¯t last a long time.
As the tapes were exposed to the air, they lost their adhesive strength. To solve this problem, Dickson put sticky cloth on the sticky portions of the tapes.

¡°Look, it lasts longer than previous one!¡± His invention was very successful. Her wife was very satisfied with it, too. And, those tapes were put on the market named as ¡°Band-Aid.¡±

The Band-Aid spread throughout the world and eventually became an essential medical supply item.
