How
many languages can you speak? Most Koreans may be able to speak one
or two languages, for example, Korean and English or Japanese. Learning
a language is not easy for any of us. Furthermore, learning several languages is very
difficult and may be impossible for anyone. Recently, a university
student came into the spotlight.
Don¡¯t be surprised! He can speak 11 languages! Can you believe it?
How is this possible?
Twenty-year-old Alex Rawlings became the winner of the Most Multi-lingual
Student in Britain competition held by language publishing company Collins.
People aged between 16 and 22 can take part in the contest. The Oxford
University student can currently speak 11 languages
- English, Greek, German, Spanish, Russian, Dutch, Afrikaans, French, Hebrew, Catalan, and Italian.
Alex spoke in
Greek, English and France naturally from childhood
because his mother has parents from Greece. Although he traveled to
different countries with his parents, he couldn¡¯t spend time with
each country¡¯s children. That is why he discovered the joy of learning a language
while studying Dutch with CDs and books.
He said in an interview, ¡°I want to continue learning other languages,
too. I¡¯ve met lots of friends through my languages. There are lots
of places to see and people to meet. The more you learn, the easier
it gets.¡± Do you think you are unable to be like him no matter how hard you try?
No, you can do it! Don¡¯t panic! Try it! Which language
do you want to try next? |
