World Rhino Day    [04-10-2013]
Untitled Document
This year, World Rhino Day was September 22. Many people and organizations all over the world celebrated the day by coming together to raise awareness of rhino conservation. How much do you know about the rhino?

There are five different species of rhinos in the world. They are the black rhinos, white rhinos, Indian rhinos, Javan rhinos, and Sumatran rhinos. They mostly live southern Asia or Africa.

All species of rhinos can usually grow over 1,000 kg. However, white rhinos can grow to 3,500 kg! That¡¯s big! That is why the white rhino is considered the second largest land mammal after the elephant. And even though the rhino has a large body, they eat only plants. They usually eat sprouts and sprigs.

The rhino has horns made of a special protein. So, they are often hunted by humans for their horns. Unfortunately, that has now made three of the five rhino species endangered. Let¡¯s protect the endangered rhino!
