When
someone is in danger, can you drop everything and come
running to him or her? If you are a person who has a strong sense of justice, you may
say, ¡°For sure, I can help!¡± Humans can do anything. Recently, a little
boy proved humans can do anything to the world. A 12-year-old boy
from New Zealand, who was swept out to sea by rough waters, was rescued
by people around him.
On March 10, a boy named Joshua McQuoid was playing with a friend
on Napier Beach in New Zealand. He was unexpectedly drawn into the
sea and fought against the pounding surf for a few minutes.
His friend Hikiroa Ratapu screamed alarm, but the waves were so strong
that citizens as well as policemen and tourists failed to lift McQuoid above water.
After a process
of trial and error, finally,
over 12 people on the beach made a human chain into the sea by holding
each other¡¯s hands, and together they managed to pull McQuoid out
of the water. Even more luckily, McQuoid was taken to a local hospital
and came back home that day with only a minor injury, which is amazing
after such a big accident. ¡°We want to thank all of those people.
There¡¯s no way we can thank them all individually, but they all have
our thanks. Without them, we might have lost our son,¡± said Shane
McQuoid, the boy¡¯s father, in an interview.
We don¡¯t want to admit it, but we live in
an increasingly hostile world. That is why
this joint rescue effort impressed people around the
world. Life is something we must share with other people. Take a look
around! It¡¯s time to help someone! You can say, ¡°Can I help you?¡± |
