Do Giraffes Sleep Standing?    [18-10-2013]
Untitled Document
Giraffes are very unique animals. They have long necks and legs. Because of these features, they rarely lie down. Then, do they sleep standing? If so, why?

The answer is yes. Giraffes usually rest and sleep standing up. It is because when encountering predators, they have to run away very fast. In this way, standing helps them spot predators with their keen sight. However, sometimes they can be observed lying down. They lie down only when they are in safe areas away from predators.

Giraffes are one of the most peaceful animals in the world. They feed on only grass. They don¡¯t hunt other animals. Therefore, they are low down on the food chain. Sleeping while standing is one way of their means to defend themselves from predators and to help them survive.
