Are you a big basketball fan? Which team is your favorite? Basketball fans are mostly interested in teams and players instead of their coaches. However, without coaches, there would be no great teams that you may follow. The one legendary basketball coach you should not forget is John Wooden (1910-2010), the former coach of UCLA. He led his team to national championship victory ten times.

John Wooden always stressed the importance of practice to his athletes. One day, he gathered his athletes together for a practice game before a big match.

¡°You should play as if you are playing in an actual game.¡±

The practice game started, and the players did their best. The game was very intense. Of course, John Wooden¡¯s team later won the big match.

After that game, a coach from the other team asked John, ¡°How did you train that short player? He will later be a star.¡±

¡°I don¡¯t know which player will be a star. The best player is the team itself. Cooperation is the most important. Athletes who contribute to the team¡¯s victory are more important than those who have great skills,¡± John answered.

John¡¯s aim was never winning games. Rather, he focused on helping players develop their abilities. He was also well known to care for his players as if they were his sons.

Though he died in 2010, he remains recognized asthe best basketball coach of the 20th century.
