Who Created the Vacuum Cleaner?    [25-10-2013]
Untitled Document
Have you imagined yourself cleaning house without the vacuum cleaner? It could be a nightmare without it. It is obvious that the appearance of vacuum cleaners unburdened the workload of housewives. But who made this great machine? It was British engineer Hubert Cecil Booth (1871-1955).

Hubert Cecil Booth always wanted to be an inventor since he was little. When he grew up, he worked as a civil engineer. One day, he went to a machinery exhibition. He saw a machine that blows dust and puts the same into a dust collector. It seemed like a great idea, but it wasn¡¯t well received by the people.

¡°When the machine blows the dust, the dust will be blown to other places. What if it sucks the dust?¡± Booth thought. Soon, he started to develop a machine that cleans the dust by suction instead of by blowing it. And, it was successful!

¡°This is quite special! Does this machine really suck up the dust?¡± People were surprised by his innovative invention. However, since it was too big for domestic use, people hesitated to purchase it. It was usually used in the offices.

¡°I should make it smaller. I also have to reduce the noise the machine makes,¡± thought Booth as he constantly tried hard to make a machine that may be used for everyone.

Finally, in 1901, he succeeded in inventing today¡¯s vacuum cleaner. Now, it is an essential cleaning tool for everyone.
