Malala Yousafzai is a 16-year-old girl, but this fragile little girl has inspired the whole world. Malala was born in a small town of the Swat District, Pakistan. In 2009, Malala reported to BBC the tragic life of people in Swat Valley, where at the time the Taliban dominated. She strongly criticized the Taliban¡¯s attempt to ban women from attending school. After the report, she continued her activities to fight for women¡¯s education. Consequently, the world paid great attention to her actions.

On October 9 in 2012, while on her way home from her school, Taliban gunmen shot Malala in the neck and the head. She was in critical condition right after the shooting, but fortunately, she later became better. The Taliban admitted their intent to assassinate her, but they only strengthened their stance to kill Malala and her father.

After the incident, the world was furious and started to take actions to support her. Deutsche Welle, Germany¡¯s international broadcaster, wrote that ¡°Yousafzai may have become the most famous teenager in the world.¡±
Gordon Brown, United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, also launched a petition demanding that all children in the world be in school by 2015. In addition, the ¡°Malala Fund¡± was launched to ensure women¡¯s right for education. Malala also won the International Children¡¯s Peace Prize for 20132013±¹Á¦¾î¸°ÀÌÆòÈ»ó.

¡°One child, one teacher, one pen, and one book can change the world,¡± Malala said last July at the United Nations. The world is now grateful to her for reminding people of the importance of education.
