How
many of you have read the book Momo written by Michael Ende (1929-1995),
a German children¡¯s book author? The book was published in 1973. Since
then, it has been beloved by many kids while sending an inspiring
message about time and modern society. Michael Ende could write this
great book because he saw the world from the children¡¯s point of view.
It was when Michael went to a daycare center. ¡°Just pose with children,
I will take a picture of you,¡± a reporter asked Michael. The reporter
wanted to take pictures of Michael with children to promote his book.
So, he asked Michael to either shake hands with the children or talk
to the children. However, when Michael met the children, he immediately
joined them and spent time with them while playing soccer and reading
books to them.
The
reporter told him with a quizzical glance, ¡°Mr. Ende, why don¡¯t you
be little calmer so that I can take a picture?¡± But, Michael didn¡¯t
care what the reporter said. The appearance of Michael playing with
the children seemed like he was just one of the kids.
¡°You treat children like they are your friends,¡± the reporter said.
¡°Of course, they are my good friends!¡± he replied. ¡°By the way, why
do you crawl like a baby when you play with them?¡± the reporter asked.

¡°I always remember my memories in childhood. This is how I could
start writing children¡¯s books. I want to view the world based on
the children¡¯s perception. You will never know the difference between
children and adults unless you crawl like them.¡±
Seeing children as children and taking efforts to understand them
from their points of view led him to be one of the best authors of
children¡¯s books. His books will always be the best to children! |
