The genius of advertisement designer Lee Je-suk (1982-) is amazing! He is a great and leading designer that the whole world watches. Once more, he recently drew huge attention when his draft advertisement denouncing Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was unveiled to the public. How could he become such an influential figure at such a young age?

After Lee Je-suk graduated from college, he entered many advertising contests. But he always got rejected since he had never studied abroad. Most companies wanted highly educated people. Lee realized there was no one who only saw his ability.
So, he decided to go to New York to study advertising. He had mere $500 when he left for New York. He started his study while living in a very small single room, eating only cheap hamburgers for his meals.

When he chose a college, he considered the faculty members to be the most important criterion rather than its reputation. While studying in the United States, he was sometimes discriminated due to his race, and had to look for a soup kitchen because he had no money for his meals. However, he never gave up his dream. He was sure that people in his country would recognize him.

As a result of his persistent efforts, he finally won a prize in a contest with his advertisement, entitled ¡°Chimney Gun.¡± After that, many advertising companies tried to hire him, but he refused all. Instead, he founded an advertising laboratory on his own. Since then, his career has continued to thrive.

¡°People always called me troublesome since I was little. When I entered college, I found out what I really wanted to do. However, it was not easy for me to achieve success in Korea. I had an opportunity in America where society sees people¡¯s abilities. If our society helps people to spread their abilities without discrimination and stereotyping, there will be a lot more geniuses in Korea!¡±

Lee¡¯s success shows us that genius can be born in an embracing society.
