There are various kinds of records in the world. Recently, Turkey set a world record in the ground painting field. A ground painting is an art form native to Australia. It is created using various minerals to pigment plant material. A picture is usually taken of the result, to preserve it for history.

On May 18, the Guinness Book of Records registered a 12,000 sq.m (similar to the size of two football stadiums) ground painting in Istanbul as a world record. It is said to promote Istanbul¡¯s host bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

The painting is the image of a high jumper who jumps the Bosphorus Bridge that connects the European and Asian continents, and two hands shaking beneath the bridge. About 460 people participated in the making of the painting, including more than 250 students. It was completed in five days!

The previous record was set in Pennsylvania, the United States, in 1998. After 15 years, Turkey has broken the record!
