If
you were born in 2002, 1990, or 1978, 2014 is your year. According
to the Chinese zodiac, 2014 is the year of the horse, an animal that
occupies the seventh (out of 12) position on the zodiac. Ancient Chinese
astrologists believed that horses symbolize strength, energy, and
an outgoing nature. People who were born in the year of the horse
are considered as extremely intelligent, honest, friendly, and open-minded.
The relationship between horses and humans go back thousands of years.
It is widely believed that Asian nomads domesticated horses about
4,000 years ago. Although there is only one species of domestic horse,
there are 400 different breeds within that species.
While most
horses have been domesticated, there are also feral and wild horses.
Feral horses are born and live in the wild, but they are descendants
of domesticated animals. Wild horses, on the other hand, have never
been domesticated. Sadly, the endangered Przewalski¡¯s horse is the
only wild horse remaining. They live on the steppes of Mongolia. Both
feral and wild horses live in groups called herds. A stallion (a mature
male) leads the group, which consists of mares (mature females) and
foals (a male or female less than one year old).
For thousands of years, horses have been used as both work animals
and pets, and they are respected and revered in many cultures throughout
the world. |
