Do you enjoy going to the park? Parks are fun places to visit because there are so many things you can do there. In Seattle, Washington there is a special park where visitors can pick fresh fruits and vegetables and eat them for free! Called the Beacon Food Forest Project, this park is located just 4 km from downtown Seattle.

Since 2012, hundreds of volunteers have been working hard to develop the first two acres (out of seven) of the urban food forest. So far, about 35 trees have been planted.
The trees are expected to bear fruits and vegetables by next year, which is when the park will be opened to the public.

A wide variety of produce will be available, including strawberries, plums, apples, different kinds of vegetables, and even nuts! When the park is completed, it could be home to as many as 200 types of edible and useful plants. In addition, the park will feature 50 individual gardens, a picnic area, and playgrounds where kids can run around and play.

Organizers have asked that people be ¡°ethical¡± and only pick a handful of fruit so there¡¯s enough to go around. Glen Herlihy, the Seattle resident who came up with this brilliant idea, said he hopes the project accomplishes two things: to bring the community together and teach visitors about preserving the environment.

Do you want to see a ¡°food forest¡± in Korea? Hopefully, more cities will follow Seattle¡¯s lead and create these kinds of urban forests for their residents!
