Have you heard of Simon Rattle (1955-), one of the world¡¯s most recognized conductors? He was the principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic for over 10 years. Simon says he was able to become an internationally prominent conductor because he dreamed big and believed it would come true.

Simon Rattle made his debut when he was 15 years old and was quickly recognized as ¡°the musical genius.¡± When he was an assistant conductor of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, he had an interview. The interviewer asked him, ¡°Simon, can you tell me your ultimate goal as a conductor?¡± ¡°I want to be the greatest conductor in the world. It might be the ultimate goal that everyone in a musical career would like to achieve,¡± Simon replied. The interviewer smiled at Simon.

Then, Simon asked the interviewer, ¡°Who do you think is the greatest conductor in the world?¡± ¡°Of course, it is Herbert von Karajan,¡± the interviewer answered. ¡°That¡¯s right. What I am trying to say is that I will become the conductor who outperforms him,¡± Simon confidently said. The interviewer was very surprised that the 15 year-old Simon had such great ambition.

¡°Do you think you can surpass Karajan who is the greatest conductor of the 20th century?¡± he asked Simon. ¡°I believe that people dream their dreams because they can make them come true. And, it is still okay for me not to achieve it. At least, people will see me as a person who challenged the world¡¯s greatest conductor.¡±

Eventually, Simon became the conductor whom no one can replace, just like he said when he was 15 years old.
