People
make various things with ice. Every year, people in Sweden build an
ice hotel to attract visitors. Also, festivals featuring ice sculptures
can be found all over the world. However, you¡¯ve never seen this before!
It is a vehicle made with ice that can actually be driven!
Recently, a Canadian tire company created the ¡°coolest¡± truck ever
built to show how well its car battery could stand up to the cold.
First, the builders stripped the cab and body from the truck. Then,
they fitted a special steel frame to support the heavy ice chassis.
Almost everything, except for the truck¡¯s steering wheel, engine,
and tires, were made with about six tons of ice. However, there was
a problem: what if the engine¡¯s heat melts the ice? To solve this
issue, they created special fans to expel hot air. These fans are
able to gather and push out the heat generated by this truck¡¯s engine.
Once completed, the truck weighed a whopping 6,803 kg. In order to
prove that this truck is not an immobile sculpture, the truck was
driven for about 1.6 km at a speed of 20 mph. The creators of this
ice truck are hoping that it will soon be recognized by the Guinness
World Records staff. |
