A
latest study has revealed that there could be countless diamonds in
the atmospheres of Saturn and Jupiter. The study by American planetary
scientist Mona Delitsky of California Specialty Engineering was presented
at the American Astronomical Society¹Ì±¹ õ¹®ÇÐȸ on October 9.
The study suggested that Saturn and Jupiter¡¯s atmosphere have good
conditions for producing carbon particles necessary to support the
temperature required for forming diamonds. Diamonds, composed of carbon,
are generally made at high temperatures and under high pressure. They
are also formed in Earth¡¯s upper mantle.
However, according
to Delitsky, the nucleus of Saturn and Jupiter is so hot that diamonds
aren¡¯t actually able to be found on the ground. So, the diamonds in
the planets are not permanent.
Meanwhile, the academic world claims that diamonds are forever on
Uranus and Neptune, but not on Jupiter and Saturn. |
