Once
upon a time, dinosaurs roamed everywhere in the world. Today, some
people spend their entire lives searching for fossils or other remains,
because they are so valuable.
A diplodocus skeleton was found and sold for $650,000 at a British
auction! It was found by the sons of a German paleontologist, Raimund
Alberdoerfer. They were sent to the Dana quarry in Wyoming, in the
western United States, because they disturbed their father¡¯s work.
The skeleton
was found on private land. So, it was possible to remove the fossils
from there and to be sent to Holland, where they were cleaned and
assembled. Later, they were sent to the United Kingdom, where the
skeleton found a new owner.
According to Errol Fuller, a natural history expert and curator of
the sale, ¡°Finding a reasonably complete diplodocus of this size is
extremely rare,¡± and ¡°They are only ever really found by luck.¡± Its
size is 17 m tall. It¡¯s very hard to find complete skeletons of diplodocus.
