Presidents¡¯ Day    [07-03-2014]

Many foreigners are familiar with national holidays in America such as Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July. However, few people have probably heard of Presidents¡¯ Day. It is celebrated on the third Monday every February.
Two important presidents are honored this day: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Washington was the first president of the United States, and Lincoln was the iconic president that fought for human equality.

Until 1971, Washington¡¯s birthday (Feb. 22) was celebrated as a national holiday. Lincoln¡¯s birthday (Feb. 12) was also a holiday in many states. However, Congress decided that all past presidents should be honored and moved the national holiday to a single day, which as stated above, is the third Monday of February.
