I'm sure most of you love playing board games. Along with playing cards, board games are the most popular games in the world. Surprisingly, board games can be good for your health! And did you know that they have a long history? This week, why don't we learn some fun facts about board games?

Board games date back thousands of years. They were created even before the birth of Christ. Board games were main forms of entertainment in ancient civilizations. When the tomb of the ancient Egyptian King Tut was discovered in the 1920s, people found a game board, dice and playing pieces inside the tomb. That means board games have been around for over 3,000 years! Egyptians, Greeks and Romans have enjoyed playing games such as backgammon, checkers, dominos, and chess for thousands of years. Even before Columbus crossed the Atlantic, board games were being enjoyed all over the globe!

However, board games became popular only in the late 20th Century. It was after World War II that people became more interested in board games. The rise of board games was due to the rising middle class. As people started to have more free time, they started to look for fun games to play.
Today, there are over 42,000 board games you can enjoy! Wood Quake, Halli Galli, Dingo, and Monopoly are some of the most popular board games.

Playing board games is very good for your mental and physical health. A study in The New England Journal of Medicine found that playing board games or cards is great for your mind. Also, playing games is an easy and great way to spend enjoyable time with your family and friends.
