How often do you exercise in a week? Running is a foundation of all the sports, so the marathon is held on the final day of the Summer Olympics. If you want to become healthy, run every day! When you feel you are confident, you may want to join the annual Baikal Ice Marathon.

Lake Baikal is located in Siberia, Russia and it is a UNESCO protected site. It is thought to have formed 20 to 25 million years ago. Runners from more than 50 countries compete to win one of the most extreme marathons. They always have to be careful because of strong winds and the unpredictable climate during the 42 km race.

Before race day, the Ice Captain and his team closely check for possible cracks on the race course with satellite images. On race day, runners gather at Listvyanka, which is a small village near the lake, and start the race with a shot of vodka, which is a traditional Russian drink, before running the race on the lake.

The competitors run the 42 km race in order to develop an awareness of protecting nature and to raise money for clean water. The race organizers fear the destruction of our planet. They feel that once our planet is polluted, it is really hard to restore nature to its original condition. What will you do in order to save nature?
