Take-Your-Daughter-to-Work Day    [30-05-2014]

Have you ever wondered what your father or mother does at work all day? Do you think that they type at their desks all day? Or go in and out of meetings talking to important people? Do you imagine them walking to work sipping on a cup of coffee? In America, there is a day that allows children to experience what it is like for their parents to be at work: Take Your Daughter to Work Day.

Take-Your-Daughter-to-Work Day is a program that the Ms. Foundation for Women has been running for over 21 years. This program started because of disturbing research that showed how much less attention girls receive than boys. Take-Your-Daughter-to-Work Day began because of the intent to increase girls¡¯ self-esteems, introduce them to different careers, and have the girls spend more time with their parents. Because of the popularity, the program¡¯s name was changed to Take-Your-Daughters-and-Sons-to-Work Day in order to have boys feel included. Many people, however, still refer to the day simply as Take-Your-Daughter-to-Work Day, and the tradition of bringing children to work still carries on. Proud mothers and fathers will take their children into their offices to show what they do, introduce them to their coworkers, and instill the value of hard work.
