 I'm
sure all of you have seen bears at the zoo. They may look cute. But
they are dangerous wild animals. They can even
attack people! So don't go
near them! But there's a man who actually lives with bears
in Alaska. Look at the pictures! The bears are not teddy bears. They
are real!
The bear lover's name is Charlie Vandergaw. He was a high school science
teacher. He fell in love with bears more than 20 years ago. And finally
he decided to live with them! So he built a cabin in the forest. And
he lives there for 6 months of the year to make friends with the black
and grizzly bears!
Every morning, many bears come to Charlie's cabin to get some food
from him. Sometimes, they even enter
into his home to say "Good morning!" Charlie said, "I'm
getting more and more comfortable being in the presence of them.
Sometimes I even forget they're bears!"
Charlie knows the dangers of his lifestyle. But he said he
will not stop living with the bears. "I think I'll spend the rest of my life
nurturing the bears. Here, it's too beautiful and peaceful," he said.
But I guess his wife must be very lonely. Think about it. While
Charlie is living with the bears, she is home alone for 6 months! |
