Audrey
Hepburn was a talented actress. In fact, she was one of the
most famous actresses in the world.
She won so many awards including the Emmy Award,
Tony Award and Grammy Award. She was well-known for her beauty, elegance and grace. She is often seen
as one of the most beautiful women ever. In 1990, she was chosen by
People magazine as one of the most beautiful people in the world.
Later in her life, Hepburn became a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF
and helped children in need. She was a truly
beautiful person inside and out. In 1999, she was ranked as the third
greatest female star of all time by the American
Film Institute.
Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Belgium. She spent part
of her youth in England at a boarding school there. During
World War II, she studied in the Netherlands. After the war, Hepburn
studied ballet in Amsterdam and later in London.
In 1948, she made her stage debut as a chorus girl in the musical
High Button Shoes in London. In 1951, Hepburn made her film debut
in One Wild Oat. At the age of 22, she went to New York. There, she
starred in the Broadway comedy musical Gigi.
Only two
years later, she took the world by storm in the film Roman Holiday
(1953). She played Princess Ann in the film and people were mesmerized
by her beauty. Hepburn won the Academy Award for Best Actress for
this performance.
The next year, Hepburn returned to the Broadway
stage to star in Ondine with an actor named Mel Ferrer. She
did a great job in the play and won the Tony Award for Best Actress
for her performance in 1954. While performing with Ferrer, Hepburn
fell in love with him. The two were married on September 25, 1954
in Switzerland. But after a few years of marriage, they divorced.
Hepburn continued to star in many
famous films and musicals such as Sabrina (1954), War and Peace (1956)
and Funny Face (1957). In 1961, she set new fashion standards in Breakfast
at Tiffany¡¯s. She received her fourth Academy
Award nomination for her work on
the film. Hepburn actively played a variety of roles in many other films
for about 40 years.
In the late 1980s, she became a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. She
traveled all over the world to raise awareness about children
in need. In 1993, she was honored with a special Academy Award for
her humanitarian work. But sadly,
she did not live long enough to receive it. Hepburn died?on January
20, 1993 at her home in Switzerland.
Even after her death, her work to help children
around the world continues. In 1994, her two sons established the Audrey Hepburn
Memorial Fund to continue Hepburn¡¯s humanitarian work. It is now known
as the Audrey Hepburn Children¡¯s Fund. |
