There are many mammals living on Earth. We are mammals, too. But what are mammals? This week, let¡¯s learn all about mammals! There are many fun facts about them. Keep reading and learn some new facts about mammals!

Mammals are animals that are warm-blooded. Female mammals give birth to babies, not eggs. And they feed their babies on milk from their own bodies. Mammals are backboned animals. They are found all over the world. So, how many kinds of mammals are there in the world? There are about 4,260 kinds of them.

Humans, dogs, cats, elephants, and horses are all mammals. But birds, fish and turtles are not. Interestingly, whales and dolphins are not fish. Even though they live in the ocean, they are mammals. Unlike other fish, they don¡¯t lay eggs. Also, bats are mammals, too. They are the only mammals that can fly.

So, what do mammals eat? Cows, horses, pandas, beavers are plant eaters. Other mammals such as whales, dolphins, tigers, and lions are meat eaters. Human beings and some bears eat both plants and meat. Some mammals including ant-eaters and pangolins eat insects.

<Fun facts about mammals>

- Only mammals have hair. All mammals have hair at some time in their lives. Dolphins and whales lack body hair. So they have a thick layer of fat that help them stay warm. Other mammals with little hair such as elephants live in warm areas.

- Mammals have larger brains than other animals. Some mammals, including human beings, chimpanzees, and dolphins are highly intelligent.

- Most mammals give their babies more protection and training than other animals.

- Only mammals sweat. Primates have sweat glands all over their bodies. But cats, dogs and mice have them on their feet.
