We have to eat every day to live. We eat 3 meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. I¡¯m sure your parents give you healthy food every day. But sadly, not everyone in the world is lucky to eat nice food every day. In fact, many people are dying of hunger. This week, let¡¯s think about the poor around us.

Today, there are about 6.55 billion people on Earth. Among them, about 1 billion people don¡¯t have enough food to eat. Most of these people live in poor countries. The Indian subcontinent has nearly half the world¡¯s hungry people. Africa and Asia together have about 40%. And the remaining hungry people are found in Latin America and other parts of the world.

In fact, hungry people are everywhere. There are many poor people even in advanced nations including the U.S. More than 36 million American people experience huger. Also, 13 million children in America go to bed hungry.

Surprisingly, almost 1 billion people across the world live below the international poverty line. They earn less than 1 dollar per day! So they cannot buy food for their families every day. As a result, they are always hungry. Also, they are unhealthy. They eat less than the minimum amount of calories necessary for good health.

According to the United Nations (UN)±¹Á¦¿¬ÇÕ, about 200 million children in the world are hungry. Sadly, almost 30,000 children die of hunger every day in the world. That means one child dies every five seconds.

So, how can we stop world hunger? There are many ways that you can help to stop hunger in the world. For example, you can volunteer to serve the poor. Find out what organizations are helping those people who are hungry. Find out what you can do to help and do it. You can also donate food like cookies, canned soup, cereal and rice. Or you can raise money with your friends to send to the poor. Just remember this. If we care for each other, we can make the world a better place to live!
