Father¡¯s
Day is celebrated on different dates
in different nations. People all over the world celebrate Father¡¯s
Day to express love for their fathers
and honor them. On this day,
children give cards, flowers and other gifts of love to their fathers.
Fathers take good care of the house and their children. Also, fathers
teach their children many
things. Children in Korea thank their fathers on Parents¡¯
Day. But children in other countries thank their fathers on Father¡¯s
Day. They thank their fathers for their love and for the work they
do for their families.
The date and celebrations of Father¡¯s Day are different across countries
around the world. But the spirit behind the celebration of festival is just the same
everywhere. Most countries
including the U.S., UK, Canada,
Chile, France, Japan and India celebrate it on the third Sunday in
June.
The first Father¡¯s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Washington.
An American woman named John B. Dodd first came up with the idea of
Father¡¯s Day in 1909. Her father took care of his six children by
himself after his wife died. When Mrs. Dodd became an adult, she wanted a special
day to honor her father.
Other
people in many towns and cities across America also started to celebrate
Father¡¯s Day. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father¡¯s Day. Finally in 1966, President
Lyndon Johnson made the third Sunday of June Father¡¯s Day.
So, how is Father¡¯s Day celebrated in the world? Children prepare
beautiful handmade cards to express
love for their fathers. Many kids also prepare handmade gifts for
their dads.
The most popular Father¡¯s Day celebration
is to offer fathers their favorite breakfast in bed.
After this beautiful start of the day, children usually spend the day with their
dads.
They go on a picnic together or
dine out at a nice restaurant.
Many families also throw Father¡¯s Day party by inviting friends and
relatives. |
