Ever
wondered why your dad has
big muscles and hairy legs? If you are a
boy, I am sure you also want to be as strong as your dad someday. If you are a girl,
I am sure you wonder why your mommy has big breasts. Well, you see, even
your parents were once a kid just like you. And they went through
a special change called puberty. Puberty is the time
when your body goes through many changes to become an adult. So, are you curious about what happens
during puberty? Let's find out!
When Does Puberty Happen?
For some, puberty begins between the age of 8 and 13. And for some
it begins between the age of 10 and 15. This is why some of your friends
might have deeper voices than you or have bigger breasts. If you are
worried that puberty isn't happening to you fast enough, don't worry.
One thing is for sure. Puberty happens
to everyone.
How do I know that puberty started?
For
boys, the first sign of puberty is when hair
starts growing in places it didn't grow before. For example, light hair will grow on your
face and legs. I bet your dad shaves his beard every morning. Well,
wouldn't it be cool to ask your dad to teach you how to shave your
mini beard? Soon, your voice will turn deeper and thicker, just
like your dad!
For girls, the beginning of puberty can be a confusing time. You see,
a woman's body is very special because a woman turns
into a mother someday and can give birth to a baby. For
this reason, breasts get larger and special hormones is made by the body.
These hormones make girls get periods. I know this can
be scary at first. But when it happens,
talk to your parents. They will congratulate you because
it means you are changing from
a girl to a lady.
Puberty does the body good!
Your body will start growing really fast when you hit puberty. Ever
wondered why some of your friends got so much taller when they returned
to school from summer break? It's probably
because they are going through puberty. Some kids even grow 4 to 10
centimeters in a year! Isn't puberty a cool time? Boys will get taller
and more muscular. Girls will get curvier and more beautiful.
What are those pimples?
One bad thing that comes with puberty is pimples. When your body starts
making hormones, pimples start showing up on your face, back or chest. The only thing you
can do to control the pimples is to
keep your skin clean. If your acne gets serious, visit a doctor.
They have many acne treatments ready for you.
I know puberty can be a hard time. As your body changes, your mind
and emotions will change, too.
You might have your first crush on someone or feel sad and upset for no reason. But you need
not worry. Even the weird emotions you get will help you turn into
a wise and cool adult. Until then, hang in there and enjoy what
you can about puberty. Trust me. I was there once,
too. |
