Antoinette is one of the most famous and most tragic queens of all time.

I and Maria Theresa, Emperor and Empress of the Holy Roman Empire.
Marie Antoinette was brought up believing her destiny was to become queen
of France. And at the young age of 14, she was married to Louis XVI,
the grandson of King Louis XV of France. At the age of 19, she became
the Queen of France. But she was beheaded in 1793. This week, let's
meet the tragic queen!
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755 in Vienna, Austria.
She was an Austrian Archduchess, daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor
Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa. She married the crown prince of France in
1770. She was only 14 years old. Five years later, she became Queen
when her husband Louis XVI became the new King of France. Marie Antoinette
was only 19 years old when she became Queen. Soon she became a mother
of two children - Marie Therese and Louis XVII.
During her reign as Queen, she became
known as an extravagant woman who spent
a lot of money on clothing, furniture, and
diamonds. Rumors of the Queen's spending habits began to circulate in France. At that
time, people in France were very poor. They didn't even have enough
money to buy bread. So the people of France were angry at the queen.
On July 14, 1789, a mob of Parisian citizens took control
of the Bastille Prison in Paris. This marked the beginning of the
French RevolutionÇÁ¶û½º Çõ¸í. In the following months, angry citizens of
Paris mobbed the Palace of Versaillesº£¸£»çÀ¯ ±ÃÀü and forced the royal family to Paris. During
this time of revolution, the queen became
the most hated member of the royal family.
The royal
family tried to escape from France, but they
failed. On August 10, 1792, the royal family was arrested on suspicion of treason. They were held captive
for several years until they were put on trial for treason. On January
21, 1793, King Louis XVI was convicted and executed on the guillotine. After the short
and unfair trial, Marie Antoinette was
also sentenced to death. The tragic queen was beheaded on October
16, 1793 at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. She was executed without
proof of the crimes for which she was
accused. She was only 37 years old. |
