Who
is the most important person in your life? Your
mom or dad? Your sister or brother? Your friends? Of course, all of them are
very important to you. But YOU are the most important person in your
life. That means, you have to love yourself.
In other words, you should
have strong self-esteem. But what is
self-esteem?
Self-esteem is belief and confidence in your own ability and value. Even though you cannot see
it or touch it, it affects how you feel. Self-esteem
isn¡¯t about showing off how smart you are. Also, it¡¯s not about thinking
you are perfectly beautiful. Self-esteem
is about knowing that you are worth a lot and worthy of
being loved.
So, why is self-esteem important? Everyone needs to have healthy self-esteem. Good
self-esteem helps you feel proud of yourself. It also
gives you the power to believe in yourself. If you
have strong self-esteem, you will respect yourself and have
the courage to try new things.
When you respect yourself, others will respect you, too! Healthy self-esteem
also helps you know that every part of you is worth caring for.
You may have low self-esteem, and don¡¯t
always feel very good about yourself. This may be because your parents
don¡¯t encourage you enough. Sometimes your self-esteem
can be hurt at school when you
didn¡¯t get the grades you¡¯d hoped for. This can make
you feel bad about yourself.
It is ok
to have ups and downs in your feelings
once in a while. But having
low self-esteem is not ok. It can make you sad. It can also keep you
from trying new things or making new friends. This is why it is important
to know you are worth a lot.
So, how can you increase your self-esteem?
First of all, why don¡¯t you
try making a list of the things you are good at? It can be anything
from playing the piano or singing to telling a good joke.
If you are having trouble with your list, ask your mom or dad to help
you with it. Then, add a few things to the list
that you want to be good at. You can ask your
parents to help you plan a way to work on those things.
Stop saying negative things to yourself.
You can learn to love yourself by focusing on all of your great qualities.
Try to give yourself compliments every day. But
you have to know that there are things about yourself you can¡¯t change. For example, you
can¡¯t change your skin color and shoe size. You have to accept and love these things
because they are part of you! Just remember that you are amazing just the way you
are! Yes, you really are! |
