Age is just a number. Do you agree or not? Well, the woman in the picture is the proof. Her name is Dara Torres. She is a famous American swimmer. In 1982, Dara broke her first world record in swimming at age 14.
So far, she has been in four Olympics. She has won a total of nine Olympic medals, including four gold medals.
In 2000, in the Sydney Olympics, she won five medals as the oldest member of the U.S. team, at age 33. This year, she is looking to compete in her fifth in Beijing.

Dara is likely to be one of the biggest stories of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Why? She will be the oldest swimmer to compete in the Olympic Games! Dara is 41 years old now. She recently went through 13 small surgeries on her knees, elbows, shoulders, hands and fingers. But it seems like nothing can stop her.
Surprisingly, she is getting older but swimming faster! Last November, Dara even broke the American record for the 50-meter freestyle short course, swimming it in under 24 seconds! Isn¡¯t she amazing?
