Running
a marathon is not easy. It
is a long-distance running event with an official distance of 42.195 kilometers!
It is very hard to believe, but the woman in the picture has just
run her 69th marathon! Surprisingly, she is 69 years
old!
Say hello to Pauline Newsholme
from England. So far, she has run marathons
all over the world, including Canada, U.S., and
Europe. Recently, she ran her 69th marathon in Edinburgh, Scotland.
She ran her first marathon in 1982 in Oxford at the age of 42. She
started running as part of a fund raising effort she undertook after
her daughter Clare fell ill.
Even after Clare made a full recovery, Pauline carried on running.
She wanted to help the parents with sick children. And her efforts
have helped raise more than ¡Ì20,000 for
various children¡¯s charities.
¡°I¡¯m going to keep going. I will have to run at least 70 marathons. I
can¡¯t stop now. I¡¯m still healthy, so there¡¯s no reason why I can¡¯t keep going,¡±
says Pauline. Isn¡¯t she amazing? For her, life really
is a marathon! |
