Have
you ever seen bats on TV? They always hang upside down. Look at the
man in the picture. He is hanging upside down like a bat! Who is he?
Is he a Batman? His name is David Blaine. He is a 35-year-old magician from New York.
Last Monday, he strung himself upside down above Central Park¡¯s Wollman
ice skating rink. Surprisingly, he spent 60
hours hanging like that without sleep and food! The show ended on
September 24 when he came down 13.4 meters to the ground. So, why did he attempt
such an unusual stunt? Well, he said he wanted
to see if he could adapt to new a situation. ¡°I think we can
really adapt to any situation,¡± said David.
So far, David has tried so
many different stunts in New York City. In 2000, he spent 61 hours
inside a block of ice that was situated
in Times Square. And 2 years ago, he lived for a week underwater in an acrylic sphere in front of the Lincoln Center.
In 2002, he stood atop a 27-meter pillar erected behind the New York
Public Library for 35 hours.
David also lived for 44 days inside a transparent box hung over
the Thames River in London in 2003. ¡°I like to do these things because
it gives me a different perspective,¡± he said.
I think he is really amazing. But NEVER try to
imitate his stunts, my readers! |
