Can you imagine a day without the Internet? Today, the Internet is one of the most important parts of our daily lives. And Korea is the world¡¯s number one Internet strong power. Almost everyone uses the Internet every day in Korea. The Internet is very useful in many ways. We can send e-mails to our friends without having to go all the way to the post office.
When you are bored, you don¡¯t need to go outside to have fun. Why? You can chat with people through instant messengers! How convenient! Also, we can read online news and get lots of useful information on the Internet. But the Internet can also be harmful to you. That¡¯s why you need to learn how to use it safely!

How Can We Use the Internet?
The Internet is a great way to get useful information. And many children use the Internet to do research for their school projects. You can also download music and movies. These days, so many people in Korea have their own websites. Even elementary school children have their own personal homepages! They upload photos and various postings on their personal websites and share many things with their friends.
In fact, visiting your friends¡¯ homepages is a wonderful way to keep in touch with them. Sometimes you can play online games, visit online shopping malls, and talk to your friends on your personal network. However, since cyber crime is increasing worldwide these days, keeping yourself safe on the Internet is very important.

Be Careful When Using Internet Chat Rooms
These days, there are many websites for children on the Internet. Some kids¡¯ websites even provide chat rooms where you can meet new people. Making new friends online can be a great thing. But you have to be very careful when using Internet chat rooms. Most people are very nice and polite.
But there are also some not very nice people in cyberspace. So if you want to use chat rooms, NEVER use your real name. Always use a nickname. Also, NEVER give any personal information like your address and phone number. Don¡¯t even give your e-mail address to keep you safe. Sending photos of yourself is also not a good idea. And if you feel uncomfortable, close the conversation immediately and tell your mom or dad about it.

E-mail Safety
I¡¯m sure many of you are sending and receiving e-mails almost every day. E-mail is very easy to use and convenient. Most importantly, it¡¯s free! But you need to be careful with your e-mail because hackers can access personal e-mail. If you have private or secret personal information, then don¡¯t use e-mail to tell your friend about it. And don¡¯t open files or documents received by e-mail unless you recognize the person who sent it. You might get a computer virus from files that come through e-mail and it can damage your computer! Just delete e-mails that are from someone you don¡¯t know without opening them.
