Do
you like fairytales? Many kids love
them. When I was a child, my parents always read me fairytales before
I went to sleep. I bet you have some of your
favorite fairytales. Some
kids like ¡°Peter Pan¡±, and some kids love ¡°Snow White.¡± Well, before
all the great fairytales were written, there was a man who wrote great
stories for children. His name is Kenneth Grahame.
He is very famous for stories like ¡°The Wind in the Willows¡±, and
¡°Reluctant Dragon.¡± Never heard of them? Believe it or not, his stories
were so great that they were made into Disney films!
Kenneth Grahame was born on March 8, 1859 in England. When he was
only 5 years old, his mother passed away. His father felt very sad
about her death. He didn¡¯t take care of his children.
So Kenneth and his siblings lived with their
grandmother in England.
Their grandmother wanted them to explore and experience many things about
the world. So, they had much freedom. Young Kenneth loved
writing stories about adventure and interesting characters. As a kid, he
had a very creative mind.
When he
grew up, Kenneth started working at a bank. But he didn¡¯t really like
his job. He preferred writing stories.
So, whenever he was free, he wrote stories for
magazines. Soon, he started
writing short stories for children. His stories were very creative
and interesting. But he still wasn¡¯t a full time writer.
When Kenneth turned 40, he had his first
child. Unfortunately, his son was
sick as a baby. Sadly, he died when he turned
20. Then, Kenneth decided to become a writer
for children. He wanted to spend the rest of his life
writing great stories for children.
His first book was ¡°The Wind in the Willows.¡± Many people loved the
story. Soon, it became a bestseller. Later, the book
turned into a classic story. Kenneth wrote great story after great
story. Within time, he became a
writer loved by children all across the world! On
July 6, 1932 Kenneth Grahame passed away peacefully at the age of
73. But many children all over the world still love reading his books. |
