Recently, U.S. President-elect Barack Obama
said he would like to get a dog for his two daughters Sasha and Malia.
But there¡¯s a problem. 10-year-old Malia suffers from allergies. So
Obama is trying to find a special breed of dog that causes less allergies.
Last Tuesday, he received some good news. A dog association in Peru offered a solution. The Association
of Friends of Hairless Dogs of Peru said they want to send a Peruvian hairless
dog to the new president. It said the dog breed is perfect for kids who are
sensitive to dogs.
¡°I heard that one of Obama¡¯s daughters has allergy problems. So I had
the idea to offer him a hairless puppy,¡± said Claudia Galvez,
director of the association. ¡°Peruvian hairless dogs do not cause
any type of allergy and are very friendly, playful and sweet. I want to give a male puppy to Obama¡¯s daughters,
so they get to experience all the joys of
having a dog without suffering any allergies. I hope Mr. Obama will
accept it,¡± she added.

Galvez has a 4-month-old pedigree puppy to send to
the Obama family. For now, she is calling the
dog ¡°Ears¡± because it has two large ears. ¡°But if we send it to the
United States, its official name will be Machu
Picchu - Peru¡¯s top tourist attraction,¡± she
said.
The hairless dog breed is a small dog with a pointed snout, dating back 3,000
years. It was very popular among Incan kings. Well,
let¡¯s wait and see if it will make its way to the White House! |
