On June 16, the Kids Times visited Gyeonggi-do Uijeongbu Office of Education°æ±â ÀÇÁ¤ºÎ ±³À°Ã». The Superintendent of Schools, Kim Hak-jin, and three Supervisors, Kim Sung-hee, Cho Young-min, and Cho Kuy-yeon, welcomed us warmly. The education office provides a very unique English program for elementary school students living in Uijeongbu. The CEO of the Kids Times, Lee Jeong-sik, had a pleasant conversation with the Superintendent and Supervisors about the special program.

If you visit the Uijeongbu Office of Education in Gyeonggi-do, you will meet very special cooks. Interestingly, however, they are not professional cooks. But they can cook very well! And they are very friendly. They will teach you how to cook in a fun way. Most importantly, they can speak English perfectly. So you can learn English from them at the same time while cooking with them. So, who are they? Don¡¯t be surprised. They are U.S. Army soldiers!
From June 13 to July 25, the soldiers will invite 64 elementary school students in the Uijeongbu area and teach them how to cook. Of course they will speak only in English, so the kids can also learn English from them. The fun program is called ¡°Delicious English.¡± It is a part of the education office¡¯s ¡°Green Education¡± project. So, why will the U.S. soldiers teach the children how to cook?

Many U.S. Army units are stationed in Uijeongbu. The education office asked the American soldiers to teach English to the kids in the area. Despite their busy training schedules, 6 soldiers volunteered to teach English. While cooking together, the kids can learn English from the soldiers. The program is led by Kim Hye-ran, a teacher at Hodong Elementary School.
¡°The students can learn many new words from the soldiers while cooking. They can also learn American food culture from the soldiers,¡± she said. ¡°This English cooking class is more like a fun activity rather than a class. You know, cooking is always fun. Plus, they can learn about the culture of another country in a very fun way. The kids are having lots of fun here!¡±
The Superintendent, Kim Hak-jin, is famous for his passion for English education. ¡°I want to provide a healthier English learning environment to my students,¡± he said. ¡°I believe the Delicious English program will be a good chance for them to learn English easily. They can also experience American food culture through the program. If you want to learn English in a fun way from special cooks, please visit our education office!¡± he added with a big smile.
