Lee Kang-in Joins Atletico Madrid in Record Transfer   [01-09-2026]
Lee Kang-in Joins Atletico Madrid in Record Transfer0On July 25, Atletico Madrid announced the signing of South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in from Paris Saint-Germain. Securing a five-year contract lasting through June 2031, Lee’s transfer fee reached up to 40 million euros. The historic transfer surpassed Son Heung-min’s previous record, making it the second-highest fee ever paid for a Korean player. It also establishes Lee as the first Korean to play for one of Spain’s “Big Three” clubs: Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

Lee is familiar with Spanish soccer, having begun his professional career at Valencia before playing for Mallorca. During his three seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, he won 12 major trophies, including two Champions League titles. Despite that success, Lee sought more consistent playing time and chose to return to Spain.

Atletico Madrid pursued Lee to strengthen its attack after Antoine Griezmann left for Major League Soccer in America. Known for his vision, passing, and precise ball control, Lee will now have an opportunity to play a larger role on the field. With more than 50 international caps and a recent World Cup appearance, he will look to prove himself on one of Spain’s biggest stages.
